• Message from David Dixon – Friend of Acton Park

Just a few lines as to why I joined the Friends.

We moved to the present house 30 years ago although I myself came to live in Gresford in 1955. I can recall using Acton Park as part of the annual cross country run whilst attending Grove Park Grammar School. I can remember the wooden bridge over part of the lake that was filled in some time ago.

Now with our sixth golden retriever in 42 years, one of our daily walks is around the park when there is always someone to talk to and admire what can be seen. Not so long ago, I felt that the Park was neglected and was a poor relation to Belle Vue Park. However so much has been done by the Friends, the Fishing Club and WCBC.

I only play a very small part, but I can see what contribution myself and others of the Friends have done and was pleased to nominate the Friends for the Ruth Howarth Award with Wrexham Area Civic Society. I was delighted to learn that we were joint award winners with the Friends of Belle Vue Park. The Park tidy days are enjoyable and we do our best to highlight the Park.

    Long may this continue.

    Message from Councillor Geoff Lowe

To The Friends of Acton Park

Congratulations to all involved for the excellent work that has been carried out in the park. I would also like to pay tribute to the Acton Park Community Angling Club for work carried out in and around the lake which has contributed to the success achieved to date.

The Friends of Acton Park have taken an active part in all the community events which run through the spring and summer months, these events for families and young children have brought about more enjoyment for visitors to the park.

The Friends of Acton Park took an active part in the ‘Wales in Bloom’ competition in 2011 – their involvement was judged as an outstanding contribution.

The Bowls club are involved in these park events giving advice and support to those from the community to try their hand at the skilful game of bowls.

    My sincere thanks

    Geoff Lowe
