• In the summer of 2008 Wrexham County Borough Council called a public meeting to discuss their application to the National Lottery for funding. The Idea was to improve and develop the park facilities. Unfortunately, despite reaching the final stages of the process Wrexham lost out to another area. This was the point at which the Friends of Acton Park was formed. Many local residents, who were park users, felt that they would like to make a difference and help to maintain and improve the park for future generations.

The first few meetings were chaired by Richard Aram, parks manager, as we discussed what we wanted to achieve. The nursery had closed and gardening staff no longer tended the plants and shrubs. We, however, met with Richard as a small group on a monthly basis, helping to litter pick and do some gentle pruning of the shrubs. Our group became a constitution in November 2008 and we’ve never looked back!

Our committee is drawn from local residents and councillors and is committed to improving the park. We currently have a core membership of between 35 and 40 volunteers but are always on the look-out for more. We hold quarterly meetings at Borras Park Community Centre.
